Animal & Nature Wednesday

Animals and weather have played a big part in our life lately so I have a few photos to share.
These Banty Roosters belong to friends of ours. They wanted someone to take them and I seriously thought about it. But I could just hear the neighbors when they started crowing. It wouldn't be pretty. :)
They have Chickens and one of the Chickens decided to lay on her eggs altho they weren't fertile and they couldn't get her to quit.
So she found some fertile Banty eggs to buy and let her sit on them and they turned into Roosters.
I had to get photos of them. Aren't they gorgeous? They are now living out in the country with their daughter where they can crow to their hearts content.
This is our Friend's also. But they didn't buy it. They have red chickens.
This one flew into their pen one day since it has no top. Then it flew out and showed up again a few days later and stayed.
They think its because they have food out and someone isn't feeding it. They call it a Dork.
That's the name.  Would love to have one this color.
We were on Critter duty again the last long weekend we had. Our neighbors took off again.
It was foggy and the temps were below freezing.
These guys didn't seem to mind. They followed Con all over and he was telling them not to disappear again this time.
Nothing seemed to mind the freezing Fog. We just made sure they had plenty of food and water..
In the mornings we would go let out the Chickens and ducks about eight ish. This was one of the mornings and I felt something watching us. I looked up to see this staring at me. Annie never saw it  as she was to busy making sure we let the chickens and ducks out. It stood there long enough for me to get a couple photos of it.
Spooky.. the next day four Deer came streaking  right by me in the fog  to head over the cliff down to the River. It was a good thing I had Annie on the leash that time as she did see them and started barking her head off and would have been off after them. Now that did unnerve me as I didn't see them at first.
It was so foggy every morning that you couldn't even see the River.
Last time we watched the Critters a duck went missing.
Showed up in a rather suspicious way the next morning in a tall fenced in area at night and it has never flown higher then four feet and the fence is six feet.
This time all SIX Chickens went missing.
THREE of us spent an hour hunting high and low for them and it wasn't foggy at that time.
We went up and down the street calling here Chickie Chickie.  Thru the back yards and along the River.
We ran into more deer hiding out in the grass back there. I was to upset to take any photos tho.
Who knew we had so many deer around us.
We were sure someone had to have stolen them. Then at Dusk they just showed up to go roost.
We never did find where they were or came from but there they were and three of us had hunted everywhere  over lapping each other to make sure we didn't miss something..
There is a neighbor who is very unhappy about all their Critters so we are a little leery about all this.
Its just to weird that odd things keep happening when they leave.
Annie was a big help in herding the ducks for me again.
Fair, our next door neighbor, called me one evening, to look out the back window and this is what I saw..
You know... Every cloud has a silver lining. :)
The freeze let up and all was well when the neighbors came home.
Nature is so wonderful. It never disappoints.. People do but not nature. I took this on Tuesday morning .The wolf moon. The birds even cooperated.
I will leave you with Daisy showing you how to drink water. :))
She loves to play in water. I used to have a small table fountain and had to put it away as she wouldn't stay out of it. :)
Happy Animal Wednesday

  1. So much critter happenings at your place. Fun to see the deer. The fog looks cold to me. The picture with the swing and chickens would make a good painting. HAW.

  2. Oh, Chris, you've brought me such pleasure this morning!! I would be so blissed out seeing all these animals in my concrete life, & the natural landscape too.
So, you have a Duckherding Dog!! I love your "Gone Missing" stories, but I'm sure at the time you all must be worried. Thank you for this lovely picture of your life!

  3. So lovely to see all your photographs today. I hope your neighbour doesn't have trouble with someone in the neighbourhood giving them grief over their animals, people, as you say! Love how Daisy plays with water, cats don't usually like it, you have a unique cat there :)

  4. Cris, these photos are wonderful! I love the one of Con and the duck walking behind him in the fog, and that deer in the fog...so haunting! You should paint that :)

I wonder where those chickens go? They should let you know so you don't worry!

The wolf moon photo is wonderful too. I agree about nature!

I still don't get you in my blog roll. Many of you are missing. I just have to follow your link back after you comment. Not sure what happened there.

Bri got a job today! Temporary, but at least we can stay put for now. Whew. I never have been in this money situation before as to worry about a place to live. Thanks for your well wishes♥

  6. what great pics - amazing. i love the foggy ones and what a strange story about the chickens disappearing. they probably decided to hide from you - they are not very clever animals. I used to care for my neighbors chickens and really didn't like the responsibility - too much !

  9. A truly wonderfu; *AW* post! I love the mystery of fog (well, I'd better living in SF)! But those unexpected encounters can startle one....the low-lying fog does muffle sound.

The Deer photo is magical.....as is the Wolf Moon with the birds....just gorgeous!

Love the Chickens - but those little rascals...where do they go?
I hope the *neighbour* who does not like animals has nothing to so with it...

Con and Empire....so adorable! Annie doing what she does best (next to pink ball retrieving) - adorable! Daisy testing the water with her paw......adorable!

A great post - and told so well through your photos and words!

    Love to all,

    ♥ Robin ♥
